The Federation of Uganda Medical Students’ Association (FUMSA) is the umbrella organization for medical students in Uganda. Recognized by the Uganda Medical Association (UMA), FUMSA is a full member of the International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations (IFMSA).
Established 40 years ago, FUMSA initially represented Makerere University, Mbarara University, and Gulu University. In 2009, FUMSA strengthened its operations with the establishment of Annual General Assemblies and full membership in IFMSA. In 2014, FUMSA hosted the IFMSA Africa Regional Meeting (ARM), which welcomed over 300 participants from various countries. Since then, FUMSA has expanded to include new and chartered medical schools.

To offer future physicians a comprehensive introduction to national and global health issues. Through our programs and opportunities, we nurture culturally sensitive medical students intent on addressing the transnational inequalities that shape the health of our nation.
Empower medical students to use their knowledge and capabilities to benefit society. Provide a forum for medical students throughout Uganda to discuss topics related to individual and community health, education, and science. Train medical students to become advocates in leading social change. Address the views, concerns, and issues affecting medical students and ensure their welfare. Facilitate professional and research exchanges for medical students. Represent medical students nationally and internationally, creating a network that links them to the global community.
